Gem of Immortality

The Gem of Immortality, also called the Dark Jewel, is a powerful artifact, perhaps the most powerful artifact in the Ultimas. In ancient times, Aritoth El'Bashir, the pharoh-magi of the Evain Empire, ordered his servants and subjects to scour the land seeking the most perfect and priceless gemstone they could find. Miners on what is now Haven Isle unearthed a large and flawless gemstone of blackrock which far exceeded Aritoth's hopes. The size, perfection, and the inherent magical qualities of blackrock ensured it would be an especially powerful vessel to hold both his soul and his power for he intended to use the jewel as his phylactery.

As a result of the powerful enchantments Aritoth laid upon the gem, the site where it was mined was also affected. A death vortex formed, having some ties to the Phylactery.
