Yew Council Renamed

by Sahra Swift

The organization formerly known as the "Yew Council" has taken upon a new name. They are now known as the "Northern Area Council". Sources inside the Council have indicated that the name change was due to the people of the city of Yew turning down any assistance from the Council. The Northern Area Council is made up of Connemara, Silverwood, Rangers of the Heart, Paladins of the Wood, Aegis, the Zhentari Empire, and Legacy of the Black Rose Society.

Cookie of the Month

by Phaen Grey

Pecan Sandies

1 cup pecans

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

2/3 cup confectioners' sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 tablespoon raw sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Spread the nuts out in one layer on a jelly roll pan and bake them, stirring occasionally, until they are well browned, about 10 to 13 minutes (they will smell toasted and nutty). Transfer the pan to a wire rack to cool.

Grind the nuts with 1/4 cup of the flour. Set aside.

Beat the butter and sugar until creamy and smooth, about 2 minutes. Add the vanilla and beat well. Sift together the remaining 1 3/4 cups flour, the salt, and the baking powder, and add it to the dough, mixing until just combined. Stir in the nut mixture. Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 3 hours.

Roll the dough in between two sheets of waxed paper to 3/16-inch thick. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into 1-inch squares, then cut the squares on a diagonal into triangles. Sprinkle the cookies with the raw sugar. Place them 1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets (do not re-roll the scraps). Prick the cookies with a fork and bake until pale gold all over, about 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

When Good turns Evil

by Levon Goodbody

It would seem that most are looking the other way as those who would bring aggression to our lands run amuck. From the Zealots who have taken up residents at the Abbey, to the Orcs.

And now the Inethria has joined the rank of aggressor. This once peaceful people have cast off all sense of decency in marching on the tiny village of Cove. Hey went there not to offer trade, or help with the orcs that have long plagued them. They came instead with weapons in their hands, and greed in their hearts.

How then can those of good intent view them as a lawful nation? It would seem that in their quest for greater riches, Inethria has crossed the thin line that separates those of good intent from evil.

So now it is brought onto the shoulders of the rest of us. Will we allow our brothers and sisters in Cove to live under the tyrannical rule of the dark Lord Venner Blackhand? Or do we seek ways to undermine them at every turn?

Rise up citizens, and take back what is ours. In the name of all that is good, smite this evil foe with all that we have.

The Spirit of Cove

as told to a staff reporter by Anna Longworth

I cannot understand the reasoning behind it all, the frightened woman said.

Sitting sipping tea in the safety of the back room of her tailor shop in Cove, Anna described as best she could the attack.

We was doing nothing wrong, Just goin’ ‘bout our day and bout to set down to eat. And in they came. Swords drawn, and a look o evil in their eyes. Old Dumps was the first ta fall. He just stood there and refused ta surrender the city to theses thugs.

She spoke in shaky details the events that followed. As the men of Inethria slaughtered those who refused to bow before them.

I did see a few o the attackers get their come uppence. Six in all o them fell. Liked ta make me laugh were it not for the loss o my friends. Then, having drug a few o the men off to who knows where, they turned and proclaimed we now belonged ta some king they followed.

When asked how many were left behind to hold the city, Anna only laughed.

That be the funny thing in it. None stayed. T’was like they thought we was just theirs now and was no need ta guard us. I may be just a tailor but I tell ya this; A’int no bunch o men from some unknown king gonna rule us.

She went back to sipping her tea, and I could not help but see the determination in her eyes. She was but one of Cove unwilling to be held down. And from one would come more. They would not have their city held hostage, this was clear.

Aegis Dueling Pit

by John McDermmot

Of the many unique buildings in Aegis the one that gets little note is the Dueling Pit owned by Isabella.

Located next to the Stage House, the pit offers those seeking the thrill of combat many options. In the ring, they can fight in duels one on one, or as teams. Mages have been known to face off with magics flying around the ring faster then a swallow.

Newly added for the upcoming faire, is the lists on the roof. Here those wishing to undertake the noble art of jousting will find the run to be in good order, and properly spaced.

With so much to offer those who come through her doors, the Dueling Hearts takes her place as one of the gems in the crown of Aegis.

The past few days have been very eventful.

First, the Britannian Ambassador went to the Ophidian's castle to gift them with the recrafted Scion's Zenith, a crown that was stolen by Ricardo. The Ophidians accepted the gift, and promised to stop sending reinforcements beyond Papua, as well as to send a diplomat to Britain later to have further discussions.

On Friday, one of the higher ranking Ophidian queens defected from the Ophidian Army and ordered her Brood to continue attacks. Because of this, the plans of the rest of the Ophidians changed - the diplomat they sent to Britain informed the Britannian Ambassador of the situation and promised to not only not send more reinforcements past Papua, but to withdraw all the way to the Terrathan Keep. The rogue queen and her brood, however, kept up the attack in Papua. Later in the day, some mages in Wind learned that the source of the disturbances of the Skara Brae, Serpent's Hold, Vesper, and Papua barriers was inside the Terathan Keep. They asked that all gradmaster mages available go and try to find a way through the dark flames that had been discovered there a couple weeks ago.

While makes worked in Wind and at the dark flames, a force led by Anne Nomily cleared the rogue queen's brood out of Papua. After clearing the city, they moved to the Terathan Keep as well, making their own attempts at getting past the flames.

After some work in Wind, some mages and I were able to create a spell that would dispell the flames. When I returned with the spell to lower the flames, the force already at the flames was very eager for battle. Behind the flames were many Ophidian Berserkers, as well as one thing that both fascinated and disturbed me... a pillar of pure Blackrock. Developing simply from the energy of the pillar was a black moongate, as well as a creature of energy.

After dispatching the existing Berserkers, the group turned their attention to the creature. That "blackrock beast" was the weak link for the pillar. As people damaged the beast, more berserkers appeared, created from the power of the pillar alone. After a long battle though, the beast was destroyed, and with it, the pillar.
